What is Mozilla Thunderbird and where can I get it?

Note: A known issue with Thunderbird version 1.5 for Windows can cause outgoing email to hang and eventually crash the program. To access your Cyrus or IU Exchange mail using IMAP, the UITS Support Center recommends using version 2.x (available from IUware).

Thunderbird is a graphical email client and newsreader developed by the Mozilla Foundation. The application, available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, includes support for both IMAP and POP email.

You can download Thunderbird for free from Mozilla's Thunderbird 3 site.

IU students, faculty, and staff can download Thunderbird from IUware:
