For CAS, what is an application code?
Indiana University's Central Authentication Service (CAS) uses unique application codes, or service codes, to allow different types of users to authenticate to web sites. The type of user you would like to allow to access your web site determines the type(s) of authentication required. Each code allows only users with accounts of that type to connect. For example, a code allowing guests to authenticate will allow only users with Guest accounts to authenticate, not users with regular accounts. Similarly, a code allowing SafeWord authentication will only allow users with SafeWord cards to authenticate.
Note: These application codes are extensions of CAS at IU, and not part of the standard CAS protocol. Third-party CAS software will not usually support them.
At IU, the following application codes are available for use:
- IU: Allows Network ID authentication
- SAFEWORD: Allows SafeWord authentication
- GUEST: Allows Guest authentication
- ANY: Allows any of the above types of authentication
Note: These application codes are case-specific.
