In Microsoft Word, how can I alter the appearance of formatted text?

To globally modify the way formatted text appears in a Microsoft Word document, use the Replace command. You can use the instructions below to make any number of formatting changes:

  1. Place the cursor at the beginning of the document.

  2. In Word 2007, on the Home tab, click the Replace button. In earlier versions, from the Edit menu, select Replace... .

  3. Place your cursor in the "Find what:" field.

  4. Click Format, and then Font... (or whatever it is you want to change). If you do not see Format in the dialog box, click More (in Word v.X, 2004, and 2008 for Mac OS X, click the downward-pointing arrow) and it will appear.

  5. Select the formatting options you want to replace, and then click OK.

  6. Place your cursor in the "Replace with:" field.

  7. Click Format, and then Font... (or again, your preferred change).

  8. Select the formatting options you want, and then click OK.

  9. Click Replace All.
