At IU, what should I know about putting information about myself on my personal web page?

At Indiana University, there is no policy that specifically addresses what information about yourself you may publish on your personal web pages. IU does not censor information that is otherwise consistent with university technology and information policy.

However, it is very important that you give careful consideration to exactly what information and images related to you, your family, and friends you should put on your web page. Millions of people worldwide will have access to your web page, and copies of the information could remain in existence for years. By providing your phone number, email address, residence, or other personal information, someone might think you want to be contacted when you actually do not.

In short, it is important to keep in mind that while millions of wonderful people use the web, there is no mechanism to screen who will contact you because of personal information that you have put on your web page.
